What is Cartfly?

Cartfly is the newest way to sell your products online.  No setup fees.  No annual fees.  No listing fees.  This simple e-commerce tool allows anyone with a valid PayPal email address and a product to start selling!  It’s FREE.  It’s EASY.  It’s SIMPLE.  Customize the look of your new store and start selling items across the web.  Cartfly gives you the code to embed your store into your favorite social networks, blogs, personal web sites, etc.  Why limit your store to one location when you can have hundreds?  Friends and supporters can also embed your store to boost visibility.  Every sale made at any location comes directly back to you!

How do I get started?

Getting started with Cartfly is easy.  Here's what you need:

  • The basic information about your store
  • A logo, photo, or some other image to represent your store
  • An email address for a valid PayPal account
  • Product pictures, descriptions and prices
Here's what you do:
  1. Click one of the "Start Selling" buttons on Cartfly.com, or click here.
  2. Fill in the required information, using the "Next" and "Back" buttons to navigate through the setup process.
  3. Once the initial setup process is complete, you are taken to your store’s Admin section on Cartfly.com.  You will see a blank area where your products will eventually be displayed.
  4. Click "Add Product."
  5. Enter the product’s name, price, tags, and description.  Separate multiple product tags with commas, and think of them as categories that your products will be sorted by, not keywords that describe the product itself.
  6. Click "Next: Product Image."
  7. Click "Upload Product Image."
  8. Browse your local filesystem to locate the image of the product.  Select the file and click "Open."
  9. Once you see the image displayed, click "Next: Product Options"
  10. If you do not need to configure options for your product (size, color, style, etc), then you can click "Save and Close." Otherwise, continue with adding options.
  11. Click "Add Option."
  12. Enter the option name ("size", "color", "style", etc).
  13. Enter the option values, separated by commas ("small, medium, large", "red, green, blue", etc)
  14. When you have added all of your product’s options, click "Save and Close."
  15. Continue with each product you want to add to your store.
  16. Feel free to click around in your admin section to see the other configurable aspects of your store but, once all of your products are added, you’re ready for business!  Start multiplying your locations!

How do I embed my store in other locations?

Once you’ve created an account and added at least one product to your store, you are ready to start spreading it across the web.

  1. Log into your account on Cartfly.com
  2. Click on the "Share" button in the column on the left.
  3. In the "Where is this store going?" drop-down menu, choose "MySpace Profile" to display the code for MySpace™, or chose the appropriate selection for another destination.
  4. Click once on the code that appears in the text area below to select all of it.  Make sure that all of the code is selected.
  5. Right-click (control+click on Mac) on the text and choose "Copy" from the menu.  Be sure that you don't accidentally deselect the text when right-clicking!
  6. Navigate to the site you’d like to place your store on and log in.
  7. Navigate to the part of the site where you can edit your profile, add a blog comment, etc.
  8. In the text area that you wish to paste your code, right-click (control+click on Mac) again and choose "Paste."
  9. Make sure you save your changes and confirm the placement of your store.

What does it mean to "Multiply Locations?"

Cartfly stores can be passed and shared similar to YouTube videos.  Friends, family, loyal customers, etc. can support your sales by copy-and-pasting your “share code” into their own personal web site, blog, social network, and anywhere else that supports pasting custom code.  Cartfly allows users who participate in online social networks to spread their storefronts among their friends.  Got 120 social networking friends?  Now you can have 120 replicated stores all capable of processing sales and updating automatically.  More stores, more visibility, more sales.  Get all of your friends on board and get started now! How do I customize my new store?

Customize your new store by going to the “Appearance” section in your admin section.  There are two colored squares within this section.  By clicking on either square a full color palette will appear.  Just select the color that meets your brand and click "Save Changes." This will automatically make the desired changes anywhere you’ve previously embedded or added your store.  You can also upload a custom banner, change your store name, and define your store’s tag line in the "Appearance" section.

Where can I add my new store?

You can add your new Cartfly Store to any site that allows you to do so.  There are plenty of sites out there that do accept HTML, but here are some ready locations we know work.  MySpace™, Friendster™, Hi5™, Perfspot™, Blogger™, Xanga™, Piczo™, Typepad™, and Tagworld™.  Always remember your friends, supporters, and loyal customers can add your store to their profile as well.  Every store has public share code for others to support your sales.

Can I remove items I no longer wish to sell?

Absolutely!  You can remove any items you no longer wish to sell by logging into your store, selecting any item and clicking "Remove Product." Deleting an item from within your administrative section will remove it automatically from every shared store location anywhere on the web.  All changes made to your store auto update every location in real time.

Is there anything I can’t sell on Cartfly?

Fire arms, drugs, pornography or any x-rated items or services are prohibited—No legally prohibited items can be listed.  Cartfly.com has the right to refuse or delete any items that we deem inappropriate.  We reserve the right to remove or shut down any subdomain displaying inappropriate material.  For more information please view the Cartfly Terms of Service.

How much does all of this cost?

It's absolutely free to get started!  There are no setup fees, no listing fees, and no annual fees.  If you can think of any other up-front fees, we don't charge those either.  We make money when you make money, by charging a tiny little 3% transaction fee when you sell something.

How can I add my store to my WordPress blog?

If you are having problems adding your store to your WordPress blog, please try these steps!

  1. Determine your store share.swf URL.  If you look at your share code, you should see something like:
    data="http://mystore.cartfly.com/bin/share.swf?cartfly=100852"
    or else:
    http://sellit.com/bin/share.swf?x=980
    That is, we are looking for the URL in your share code that includes “share.swf”.  Make a note of this URL – perhaps save it to a text file.
  2. Install Kimili.  Adding the Kimili plugin to your WordPress installation allows you to use Flash.
  3. Paste the following code.  Copy and paste this into your WordPress installation:
    [kml_flashembed movie="YOUR_STORE_SHARE.SWF_URL" height="380" width="380" /]
    Make sure to replace YOUR_STORE_SHARE.SWF_URL with – no surprises here – the store share.swf URL you determined in step 1.

Do my friends who paste my store into their profiles receive a commission on sales through that store, like an affiliate program?

No.  They receive the satisfaction of helping a friend!

Does Cartfly let me sell mp3 files and other electronic content?  Does it deliver the content automatically after it is purchased?

You can sell electronic content as long as you are the copyright holder.  Don’t sell stuff that isn’t yours on Cartfly, or anywhere else for that matter.  Cartfly does not currently provide a way to deliver electronic content, such as mp3 audio, videos, eBooks, or images, automatically after purchase.  Delivery of all products from seller to buyer is the responsibility of the seller.  For more information, please refer to the seller terms.

How can I set complex shipping rate rules?

Cartfly allows you to set a base shipping rate and per-item shipping rates (by including shipping prices in each item's price).  However, you may want more control over how shipping rates are calculated.  For that, we recommend you set advanced shipping rates in your PayPal account; these rates, if set, always override shipping rates set in your Cartfly admin.

To take advantage of PayPal’s shipping rate calculation services, sign in to PayPal and click the Merchant Services tab.  The options of note here are listed under the heading “Shipping & Tax.”  Take special note of “Shipping Calculator;” it lets you set up foreign shipping rates, multiple shipping options (such as Express), and how to calculate shipping.  You may set shipping to be calculated from order total amount (in dollars) or number of items purchased.

How do I clear my cache?  What does it mean to "clear cache" or "empty cache"?

Your computer stores the files that it downloads from the internet and displays in your browser.  It does this so that, when you visit a web site for a second time, you don't have to download everything over again.  Sometimes your browser shows you the file that is in your cache instead of grabbing a newer version of it from the internet.  In order to see the latest version of the file, you have to empty your cache, forcing the browser to get it from the internet again.

Emptying cache and refreshing a page in Firefox:

  1. Click the "Tools" menu
  2. Choose "Clear Private Data"
  3. Ensure that "Cache" has a checkmark next to it
  4. Click the "Clear Private Data Now" button
  5. Click the "View" menu
  6. Choose "Reload"

  1. Click the "History" menu
  2. Choose "Clear History"
  3. Click the "View" menu
  4. Choose "Reload Page"

How do I edit the "Find me on" info in the "About" section of my store?

The icons displayed next to "Find me on" in the "About" section of your store are pulled from the Rapleaf service.  Rapleaf is the service that Cartfly.com uses to manage seller reputations.  Rapleaf tracks your reputation by allowing buyers to rate your service and leave feedback, and gathers your social networking memberships according to your email address.  To manage this information, we recommend that our sellers do two things:

  1. Since Rapleaf gathers, organizes, and displays your information based on your email address, use a separate email address for your business-related profiles and your non-business-related profiles on the social networks.
  2. Manage the data the Rapleaf shares about you by going to Rapleaf, registering for an account, and managing your privacy settings there.  Rapleaf gives you the ability to decide what you would like to share and what you would like to keep private.

Why can’t I rearrange my products (in Firefox)?

We are aware of an issue wherein our Firefox users may have difficulty in rearranging products in the store administration page.  This is due to how Firefox and Flash player interact.  The following hints will help you work around this limitation, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

  1. Click “Save” and then “Rearrange Products”.  Do not drag any products outside of the area shown by the pink border we drew below:

  2. You should be able to rearrange products at this point.  If not, use your browser’s reload or refresh button.
  3. If you are still having problems, consider using another browser such as Opera, Safari, or Internet Explorer to rearrange the your products.  Open up the other browser, log in to Cartfly, and proceed as normal.
